Grand Opening Mingle Log

You've just moved to Farethere City!

Why? Well, you don't seem to want to dwell on it too hard. You certainly remember who you are and where you're from - it's not as though you have amnesia or anything like that, of course not. You just don't really want to think about the events immediately leading up to your moving here for some reason.

That's not important anyway. What matters is that you've just moved in to a new town! It seems like there are a lot of other people besides you moving in today, too. There's a giant 'Welcome to Farethere City' banner hung up between two trees, and there's all kinds of food and drink on tables underneath, including plenty you've probably never seen before.

Now's a good chance to meet your neighbors and get yourself situated. Wander around town a little - check out the library, or figure out what on earth those mushroom-shaped doors at the far end of town are for. Or just pig out on the food - you did just unpack all your stuff today, no one will blame you for taking the chance to relax.

(Don't think too hard about the unboxing process. Or why there might be some things in your house that you don't remember buying.)

Your mayor is floating about greeting people. You'll properly get to meet him at some point, so be sure to ask him all the questions you have about your new home.

Name's Lotus. And 's all about the tastes. Some tastes go better with others. It's all experience and knowledge. And a little bit of experimentation.

[She helps herself to a plate of red peppers covered with darker red flakes, then downs it down with one of the more fruity wines.]

[Grainne stares a moment in awe as she knows the peppers would likely be hot. How does one not start shooting flame when eating hot foods?]

Still seems like a strange thing to do with wine when you think about it. Surely, any good wine should go with any dish. I often drink wine with cake. And chocolates.

[Not only does the lotus flower not seem to be shooting fire from her 'face', she seems to be relishing it?]

Oh, it ain't horribly important. 'Least you're drinkin' good wine. But like I said, some flavors go well with others.

[Grainne wants to try it!]

I learned well that. I tried to put apricot with rhubarb and chocolate once in a cake I was designing. It... was not as good as strawberry and rhubarb. You cannot go wrong with raspberry and chocolate though.

[At least in her opinion; someone else might like apricot and rhubarb. But she was paid to be discerning when it came to cakes.]

Aye, aye, you gotta be mindful of the details like that. 'S why I recommend particular combinations. Had enough, or would you like to try somethin' else?

[The way her eye lights up is a sure sign she does!]

How about something spicy this time? Perhaps later, I could bake you a cake.

A cake? That'd be lovely.

[She hands over another plate of the same thing she was eating as well as the fruity wine. The flavor is overall fairly spicy, with a mixture of savory and sweet tastes.]

[At the first bite, Grainne seems okay. And then the heat hits. She pauses a long moment and finally swallows.]

Oh my.

[She takes a sip of the wine.]

That is quite a kick, or I have no tolerance. [Probably no tolerance.] What sort of spice is in this?

'S mellowblossom. Not a fittin' name, is it? No worry, no worry, I've got other things to eat if you like.

I love it. [It's different, and that is exactly what Grainne wants. New town, new life, right? Her cheeks are faintly pink still, from the wine as well as the food.]</small. What else is there here?

Hm, ain't naught wrong with indulgin' but maybe it's time to be servin' you juices instead of wines. Anyways, I can give you something milder so you can work your way up to the spicier things.

Is it easier doing that? [She seems about ready to protest at changing to juice though, what better occasion than a welcome festival?] Eating milder flavors first?

Some folks like to work their way up, and some plunge in headfirst into the heavy stuff until they get used to it. Ain't a right way to do it.

It sounds quite painful, but delicious. [She's not at all daunted.] Will you be serving this spicy dish other days? I quite like it.

Aye, I'll be makin' this a staple of my menu. 'S mighty popular where I come from.

Where do you come from? I have never seen any dishes quite like this before, even in London's multicultural areas.
